The village of Alderley Edge is situated in Cheshire, North-West England. It has an estimated population of 4780. Cheshire is located 12 miles south of Manchester city centre and 6 miles northwest of Macclesfield.

The iconic landmark, The Edge, is located in Alderley Edge. The Edge is a wide sandstone escarpment situated above the village of Alderley. It is approximately 220 metres above sea level and 120 metres above the Cheshire Plain below it. It is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest and owned by the National Trust. Throughout medieval times, Alderley Edge was part of the Chorley township of the parish of Wilmslow and in the Macclesfield Hundred of Cheshire. Under the informative Poor Law Amendment Act 1866, Chorley became a civil parish in its own right. Alderley Edge was created 18 years later in December 1894. In 1974, Alderley Edge became a civil parish in the district of Macclesfield, and in 2009, became part of the Cheshire East authority.
