Adventures on Wheels
Caravan and motorhome servicing
About Adventures on Wheels
Adventures on Wheels is a small family run business providing mobile caravan and motorhome servicing. Rather than asking owners to book time off and tow to a workshop, Dave brings the work to them, at home, in storage or on a seasonal pitch, covering the south of the UK and Lincolnshire.
The service list is wide: habitation checks, servicing, repairs and fault finding, professional valeting, towing and logistics, self build design consultation, and a growing retrofit side covering solar and off grid power, air conditioning, motor movers and mobile WiFi. The business carries more than fifteen years of industry experience, technicians trained through the NCC Training Academy, MCEA registration and approvals from Truma, Alko, Reich and BCA.
The Challenge
The brief here was refreshingly specific. He wanted to be able to update the website himself.
That sounds modest until you look at what the business actually needs to publish. Retrofit products change constantly, because the WiFi hardware, solar kit and air conditioning units that are worth fitting this season are not the ones that were worth fitting two seasons ago. Service descriptions get refined. Coverage areas shift. Reviews come in and deserve to be on the site while they still feel current. A blog only earns its place if posts appear.
A website that needs an email to a developer for every one of those changes does not get changed. It drifts out of date, quietly, until it is describing a business that no longer quite exists. For a one person operation the developer email is also a cost and a delay attached to a five minute job, which is the surest way to guarantee the job never happens.
What We Built
We built Adventures on Wheels a website structured around the work, with full CMS access so the whole thing is his to edit.
The services are set out plainly across valeting, habitation checks, repairs and fault finding, towing and logistics and self build consultation. The retrofit side gets its own space, because upgrades are a different conversation from servicing and a different customer often arrives looking for them. There is a blog, an FAQ section and a booking page, so an owner can go from wondering whether the habitation check is due to having a date in the diary without a phone call.
Everything he is likely to want to change is editable: text, images, service descriptions, upgrade products, prices, coverage, posts. The accreditations and approvals are given proper prominence, because in a trade where somebody is being invited onto a driveway to work on a gas system, trust is doing most of the selling.
The usual foundations sit underneath: mobile responsive layout, fast loading, secure hosting, SSL, daily backups and SEO groundwork written around the terms owners actually search for.
The Result
The site keeps pace with the business. New upgrade products go up when they become available rather than when somebody gets round to requesting a change, and the reviews on the site are recent ones. Owners can check what is covered, read the FAQs and book without picking up the phone, which for a mobile engineer working alone is time back in the day.
None of this is unusual for us. Every site we build comes with CMS access as standard. It was simply the thing that mattered most to this client, and it is worth saying out loud because plenty of website owners have never been given the keys to their own site.
Why It Worked
Control is the difference between a website that works and one that ages. The businesses that get the most out of a site are almost always the ones that touch it regularly, and the only way that happens is if changing something is genuinely easy.
The safety net matters too. Nobody is obliged to do their own updates. If a change is awkward, or there is simply no time, telling us what you need is part of the monthly plan rather than an extra. That combination, your hands on it whenever you want and ours whenever you do not, is how a site stays current. Our pay monthly web design page explains the model, and our reviews page shows what customers make of the support side.
Common questions
Can I update my own website?
Yes. Every site we build includes full CMS access, so you can change text, swap images, add products, publish posts and update prices yourself. That was the main thing Adventures on Wheels asked for, and it is standard on every plan.
What if I do not want to do the updates myself?
Then do not. Just tell us what you need changing and we will do it for you as part of your monthly plan. The CMS is there as a benefit, never an obligation, and you will not be charged for asking.
Do I need technical skills to edit my site?
No. If you can write an email you can edit your website. Text, images and page content all work the way you would expect, and if you get stuck there is a real person on the end of the phone rather than a ticket queue.
How much does a website for a mobile trade business cost?
From £39 per month with nothing to pay upfront, including hosting, SSL, daily backups, CMS access and ongoing support. For a small mobile business, spreading the cost monthly means the website does not compete with tools, parts and fuel for the same budget.
Can my website take bookings?
It can. Adventures on Wheels has a booking page so owners can arrange a service or habitation check without a phone call. What that looks like depends on how you like to work, so it is worth a conversation rather than an assumption.
Your website should not need a developer every time something changes.
Every site we build comes with full CMS access, so you can update it yourself. If you would rather not, tell us what you need and we will do it for you.
