Wild Explorers Forest School
Nursery and early years
About Wild Explorers Forest School
Wild Explorers Forest School is a nature-based nursery and pre-school in Poynton, Cheshire, for children from 12 months old. It is a predominantly outdoor, Ofsted registered setting where the majority of the day is spent outside in sun, rain or snow. The nursery room is called Little Squirrels, the pre-school room is Owls, and the whole approach is child-led: children’s interests shape where the learning goes next, and independence, resilience and school readiness are built day by day through real experiences in nature.
It is exactly the kind of setting parents fall for on a show-around. The trouble was that the website was no longer doing the setting justice.
The Challenge
The old site had been built on WordPress with a page builder that had become corrupted, so nobody could edit it any more. There was not much on it, the staff bios were out of date, and the team did not have copies of their own photos. For a nursery that is a real problem, because a nursery website is not a brochure: parents use it to check fees, read policies, meet the staff and decide whether to book a visit, and the early years rules expect certain information to be published and kept current.
Wild Explorers needed a website that matched the warmth of the setting, held everything parents and the EYFS framework expect to find, and could be updated in minutes rather than not at all.
What We Built
We rebuilt everything from scratch on our platform, as a nursery website design project on our Little Fruitcakes plan. The design leans into the forest school identity: the hand-drawn logo, woodland colour and hand-lettered type carry through every page, around the nursery’s own line of Explore. Grow. Belong. Outside.
Each room has its own page, so Little Squirrels and Owls each explain their day, their routines and, for pre-school, the transition towards school readiness. Our Approach sets out the forest school thinking for parents who are new to it. Meet the Team gives every staff member a photo and a short bio, rebuilt from the current team rather than the outdated list on the old site. The Parents section holds fees, FAQs and every policy as a PDF, kept in the footer so the information is always one click away without cluttering the main pages.
Booking a visit matters more to a nursery than any other enquiry, so Book a Show-Around sits in the header on every page and feeds a form that emails the nursery the moment a parent sends it. We kept the existing domain, handled the switch-over with the registrar, and lifted the usable photos from the old site so the nursery did not have to start a photo library from nothing.
The Result
The new website went live on 5 October 2026, around three weeks after the first content arrived, and the management team signed it off after reviewing every page. The stream of small changes they asked for along the way, a new room name here, an updated napping arrangement there, was turned around the same day, which is exactly the service a nursery is buying: send it over, we sort it.
Wild Explorers now owns a website that parents can actually use: fees and policies published and current, real staff on the team page, a gallery of children outdoors in every season, and a show-around button that works from a phone at the school gate.
Why It Worked
Nursery owners and managers do not have spare hours, and the websites that go stale are the ones that depend on somebody finding time to wrestle a page builder. Wild Explorers runs on the same basis as every Little Fruitcakes website: £79 a month including VAT with nothing upfront, hosting, SSL, daily backups and every change made for them, so keeping the site current takes a message rather than a login. You can see the standard we hold ourselves to on our reviews page.

Common questions
How much does a nursery website like this cost?
Wild Explorers runs on our Little Fruitcakes plan: £79 a month including VAT, with nothing to pay upfront. That covers the design and build, secure hosting, an SSL certificate, daily backups, full CMS access, the Fruitcake Media app and every change made for you. The initial term is 12 months and there is nothing else to buy.
How long does a nursery website take to build?
For Wild Explorers, the first content arrived in mid September, a full draft was being reviewed within ten days, and the site went live on 5 October. Most nursery websites are live within around 10 working days of us receiving your photos, fees and policies, with time after that for your team to review and refine.
Can you keep our existing domain name?
Yes. Wild Explorers kept their domain: we simply had access delegated at the registrar and pointed the domain at the new website when it was approved. Your web address stays the same, email keeps working, and parents never notice the switch.
Can parents book a visit through the website?
Yes, and for a nursery it is the single most important thing the website does. Wild Explorers has a Book a Show-Around button in the header of every page, feeding a short form that emails the nursery instantly. If you use a nursery management app, we can link to it too, so parents reach it in one tap.
What if our current website cannot be edited any more?
That is more common than you would think: page builders break, plugins go out of date and logins get lost. It is exactly what had happened to Wild Explorers. We rebuild from scratch on our own platform, lift any usable photos and content from the old site, and from then on changes are made for you, so the site can never go stale again.
Your nursery deserves a website parents actually use.
Parents check a nursery website before they ever pick up the phone. Fees they can find, policies they can read, staff they can meet and a visit they can book: that is what turns a look into a show-around.
Little Fruitcakes nursery websites are £79 a month including VAT, nothing upfront, with hosting, backups and every change made for you.
